Yerevan Airport Completes Tarmac Upgrade for Enhanced Capacity
Monday, December 1, 2025
Yerevan’s Zvartnots Airport has announced the completion of the renovation of a key section of its tarmac.
A section of the main runway and the taxiway - the 53,200 m² (1,400 m × 38 m) section spanning from Apron 1 (MTWY) to Taxiway Alpha (TWY A), which had been out of service since the 1970s, has been fully restored and put back into operation, the airport’s administration said in a press release.
The upgraded taxiway is designed to accommodate heavy cargo aircraft and can also serve as an additional evacuation route. The new section will significantly enhance the airport’s operational capacity. It will enable more efficient ground movement of aircraft, increasing the total number of aircraft movements by about 35%, reducing congestion, and boosting the overall number of aircraft and flights the airport can serve.
“The operation of this section is a key component of the airport’s ongoing development program, aimed at providing passengers with a high-quality and comfortable travel experience,” the airport’s administration said.
