The United Armenians of AmericaMonday, April 15, 2019
If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together ( African proverb). This is the secret of the power, the secret of unity and success. Every nation has to follow this advice in order to live forever. When people live far from their homes, their countries and people, they must be more careful and more united in order to stay strong.
Every Diaspora has the responsibility to preserve and protect traditions and customs. Armenians of the United States have always done their best to preserve their Armenian identity. No matter where you go in Los Angeles, almost everyone knows who Armenians are.
Since the immigration of Armenians to the United States has started, Armenians from all over the world have moved here. Armenians from Armenia, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, South America and many other countries. This means that they are all different; they are all coming from different cultures and ways of living. They speak different languages and are used to different kinds of lives.
Yet, if you look at the Armenian community in the United States, and particularly in Southern California, you will not see American Armenians, Iranian Armenians, etc. You will see a united nation. People that are proud to be of Armenian heritage and who are doing their best to preserve it.
Their children go to school together, they are co-workers, business partners, members of the same organization and community. The fact is that Armenians stay united no matter where they are and no matter where they are coming from.
