Armenia will host the IAU Communicating Astronomy with the Public (CAP2026) Conference for the first time. The event will take place May 25–29 in Yerevan and will bring together around 200 delegates from across the world.
The International Astronomical Union and Armenia’s Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory named after V. Hambardzumyan are the organizers.
“Astronomers, teachers, communication specialists in the field of astronomy, journalists, and professionals from other fields will participate. In total, we will have around 200 participants. This is a special event held once every two years. Online participation is also planned. It will serve as a platform for discussing methods of popularizing astronomy. The goal is to promote the exchange of experience between astronomers, public relations specialists, and journalists,” Areg Mikaelyan, Director of the Byurakan Observatory, told Armenpress.
It is noteworthy that later in the year, from September 14 to 18, the “Our Unstable Universe” seminar will take place on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Byurakan Observatory. Other events are also planned, including the opening of the Armenian Astronomy History Museum and the Byurakan Planetarium.
