Supervises assigned staff and reviews and evaluates work performance. Assists in the hiring, training and disciplinary actions of assigned staff. Plans, organizes, coordinates and directs the work of assigned staff. Prepares and maintains a variety of written and computerized reports including time cards, work schedules, worksheets, incident reports, annual performance evaluations, and equipment maintenance and repair requests. Trains and develops assigned staff as needed; assists in the planning and schedules on-going training. Provides input in the development of the Bureau's goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards, and actively supports their implementation. Scheduling, supervising, training and evaluating Communications Bureau personnel; overseeing routine operations of a computer-aided dispatch system; monitoring requests for service for proper responses; investigating and reporting on complaints relating to the Communications Center; monitoring various communications equipment used in the Center and reporting malfunction; participating in administrative duties of the Communications Bureau such as development of ongoing training programs, preparation of annual budget, maintenance of various procedural manuals, and preparation of various written materials; functions as Call Taker and Radio Operator as needed during shift. May act for the Bureau Commander in his/her absence. Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe, efficient manner. Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires. |
| Job Requirements: |
Exceptional customer service practices. 9-1-1 and emergency telephone operations, including appropriate supervisory troubleshooting techniques. Basic computer systems specific to bureau operations. Basic mathematics. Basic spelling, grammar and punctuation. California penal, vehicle and other codes. City of Glendale policies and procedures. Filing systems. General practices and procedures required to properly supervise Communications Center activities. Standard law enforcement operations and practices. Supervisory capabilities of CAD system and appropriate troubleshooting techniques. Two-way radio operations, including appropriate supervisory troubleshooting techniques. |
